*As healthcare providers and an essential service, our therapists have continued to work with clients, encouraging them to continue their counseling through teletherapy (secure video sessions or phone calls), which will continue for the foreseeable future. Some in-office sessions may be held depending on the provider. We will be paying attention to CDC guidelines and best practices in our field in making decisions about how and when to return to business as usual.
**We are accepting new teletherapy clients at this time. Therapists can see anyone who is a resident of PA through this methodology (either continuing this way when the current situation resolves or coming into the office if possible). We will be continuing to offer teletherapy in the future, if desired or as an adjunct to traditional in-office sessions.
Matthews Counseling & Coaching (MC&C) is a private counseling practice in Chester Springs, PA. We offer a range of services, including assessment, consultation, counseling/psychotherapy, and life coaching. Providers may also be available for talks or presentations (please contact to inquire).
Assessment: Involves meeting with a client and possibly others (parents, partner, or another family member) to discuss issues of concern, clinical impressions, and a plan of care. Staff may also consult with other providers or review documentation like testing reports as part of this process. An assessment may take 1 to 3 visits, depending on the situation and referral questions. At this time we do not offer psychological testing, but we can offer referrals if requested or appropriate.
Consultation: This is scheduled as a one-time meeting to discuss a particular situation, initial clinical impressions, and potential treatment options. A client may then opt to have treatment at MC&C or elsewhere if desired.
Counseling/Psychotherapy: These services may be conducted with an individual, as a couple, or as a family. In the case of minors, parents or guardians may be asked to participate as well. In counseling or therapy an assessment is conducted, impressions discussed, and goals generated. The therapist will discuss the suggested duration of services.
Life Coaching: Coaching is not counseling or therapy, but is geared toward addressing a specific area or goal, like relationships, interpersonal effectiveness, or productivity. Though counseling or therapy tend to be problem-focused, coaching seeks to enhance abilities or skills to achieve even greater results.
Teletherapy Services: Same as counseling or coaching, but sessions take place virtually, using a secure online (video) platform or by phone. Sessions can be purely online, if appropriate, or these may be a good fit for clients who are temporarily living in another location (i.e. at college), who have moved from the area, who have difficulties getting to the office (e.g. transportation or health issues), and more.
Walk and Talk Therapy: Same as counseling or coaching, but sessions take place outside, walking local routes to and from the office. Appropriate for clients who are physically able to walk short distances during a session and a separate consent/release form must be signed.
Talks or Presentations: Dr. Jesse Matthews has presented to groups both small and large at schools, houses of worship, community centers, and at state and national conferences. He has presented on topics including: substance abuse, bullying/cyberbullying, ADHD, parenting, and work/life balance. Please contact Dr. Matthews if you would like to inquire about a talk or presentation.
*Please note that coaching is not viewed by insurance companies as a medically necessary service, so it is not reimbursable using insurance benefits.
**Currently only Dr. Matthews participates with insurance companies (not all, but some major plans). Other providers may participate in the future, but currently offer lower rates. Providers have some ability to offer a sliding scale (reduced rate) if needed.
***Check with individual providers to see what services they offer.
