Dr. Matthews has worked in the mental health field for 20 years and has been licensed as a psychologist since 2013. Other than working in private practice, Dr. Matthews has had experience working in inpatient psychiatric hospitals; at a Veterans Administration (VA) hospital; as a counselor in a middle and high school for students with learning differences; in nursing homes; and in community mental health. Dr. Matthews has gained a wide variety of experience working with children and adults of all ages, addressing issues of mental health and substance abuse.
Dr. Matthews earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology (BS) from the University of Pittsburgh in 2000; master’s degree in clinical psychology (MA) from West Chester University in 2004; and doctor of psychology degree in clinical psychology (Psy.D.) from Immaculata University in 2012.
Dr. Matthews was born and raised in Chester County and he currently resides here with his wife and three children. In his free time Dr. Matthews is an avid runner and enjoys anything outdoors- playing sports, traveling or camping, and working in the yard. He grew up a skateboarder and still rides a skateboard or longboard from time to time.
As far as being a psychologist, Dr. Matthews loves his work, helping people to address their concerns, to feel heard, and to gain the skills they need to live their most authentic lives. Dr. Matthews has a down-to-earth and non-judgmental approach and loves working with clients on their goals.
Currently, Dr. Matthews works with individuals age 15 and older. Some of his specialties include: men’s issues; depression; anxiety; substance abuse; relationships; and life transitions.
